Hi there!
Like I mentioned in the latest podcast episode, it's been snowing and snowing and snowing.
That's a lot of work for a woman with a scoop. Esa helps out too; we each have different areas we maintain, and it's been a lot for both of us.
So last week, Esa said, "I'm taking tomorrow off work."
"Are you going to Bohemia?" I asked.
"I'd like to. Want to come?"
"Oooohhhh! Let me check my calendar!" (Checks calendar,) "I can make that work! Oooh, we are going to shred together! I'm so excited!"
And I was.
We have both been working a lot, maintaining a house and moving snow (among the rest of life). Esa and I have done maybe one fun thing together this winter, but I couldn't tell you what it is. So I might have even just made it up, but at least I'm honest about it!
It's hard to describe the difference I felt in my body as my thoughts shifted from the daily grind of work, moving snow and mothering to WE ARE GOING TO RIDE BOHEMIA TOGETHER!!!
And the day did not disappoint. It was probably one of the best days I've ever had there. Now, this was my first time snowboarding at Mount Bohemia in two years, but I used to go almost everyday when I had no responsibilities besides a part time job.
I will also be honest that I prefer these days over the past because these days are much more meaningful. Much much more.
But back to the snow. Yes, it was epic. We did the same run four or five times, and there were always fresh, deep lines. My back thigh was burning so much I barely made it down the last run to the car. Wow. What a day!
And we were so happy.

Leave it to Esa to take the signature chairlift selfie. He's a wonderful man.
You can see Lac La Belle in the background through all the snow. It was still snowing! It was seriously so much fun. That day makes all the scooping feel worth it.
And today was almost 50 degrees! Whaaaaat?!? If I didn't get that good powder day in when I did, I might not feel so much satisfaction watching the rooftops drip, but I have been watching the snow piles melt with gratitude. We needed a little break.
Because we will start again soon, I'm sure.
Today I also have a sick child. Oy! A persistent cough with a slight fever last night. He proved to me he was a little pathetic this afternoon as we went on a walk, and I ended up carrying him the last block. Oof. He is not a little tot anymore!
But we made it.
And can I tell you something that makes all my mothering worth it?
I'm glad I'm documenting this because I will need to remember it someday.
The sun shone in the back porch door, so I set him up in a chair with a blanket and some books in the blazing sunshine. He loved it! And we had lunch there while I sat on the back steps as the snow on the roof above tried to fall onto my plate. Ha!
After all that, while we were getting ready for our glorious, yet tiresome walk, he put his arms around me and said, "I love you."
I rubbed his head with his face in my belly, and he said, "You take care of me."
This made me swoon. I got down on my knees and hugged him back. "I love you too! Thank you so much! I'm so grateful for you, honey."
Then he gave me kisses and a full out "kiss attack" as we call it.
Oh, my heart.
To have my 10-year-old son recognize that I take care of him, and be able to express that with such love blew me away. I'm so lucky to have that sweet boy as my child. He really is something.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you are getting a break in the weather no matter where you are.
What. a lovely day and memory. 💞
