I meant to tell you a story about Labor Day weekend. I thought of you when this happened.
On Lobor Day Sunday, Esa and I ventured out to try to catch a late breakfast. Brady already ate some sausages and went to his dad's house for the day.
We knew this idea was not the smartest because town was full of people, and they were all thinking the same thing.
But we decided to chance it. As we walked to Mornin' Sunshine, we speculated about how busy it was going to be. When we got near the Keweenaw Agate Shop, we practically stopped and craned our necks with anticipation.
Oh, my goodness. I have never seen so many people there! It looked more like the food truck was a stage and people were sitting in the grass and at the tables listening to a concert! I would say at least 30 people were there on the grounds.
We ogled at this situation. Wow! That was way more than we could have imagined. Good for them!
But we were locals, and if we really had to, we could eat granola at home.
However, we decided to check out Jamsen's Bakery.
If anything, it was a lovely morning for a walk. The wind was a bit breezy from the northish, but the sun was warming.
Once we got down the block enough to see the crowd at Jamsen's, we were in awe again. The line was backed up to the King Copper units!
"Not for me," I said. "I'll have granola."
"I'll get you a muffin," Esa said. He decided to wait it out. I thought he was a little bit nuts, but I was fine with his decision.
As I walked up Second Street, just about to avoid the puddles, someone was suddenly at my side.
Esa!
"Looks like you changed your mind," I teased.
"I counted the people and added the time, and I decided against it," he affirmed.
"I guess you're having granola too then," I smirked.
I really want to hand it to the businesses in Copper Harbor. When there are busy times or big events, everyone involved at any well-known place can just expect to run their buns off all day long. That weekend in particular is a marathon weekend because it's also extended.
So kudos to you, people of Copper Harbor. We made it through another holiday where most other people are on vacation and we are not.
But that's life in a tourist town.
I also want to mention that Gilly and Miss Liz (wtih the help of others, I'm sure!) brought the Chili Cookoff back! I think it took a five year hiatus. But it was back with a bang! Look at all these people!
Okay, the photo doesn't do justice to all the people and the beautiful table boquet's and the merriment. But I tried!
I even entered a pot of chili. It was a really great feeling to have that return, so thanks to everyone who made it happen!
One more thing. Did you hear our latest podcast episode? Little Braeden did an interview with me! I won't give anything away, but it sure is whimsical. I hope you enjoy!
Thanks so much for visiting and reading. See you next time!
